Have You Googled Today?

世界趨勢專家Thomas Friedman在他的暢銷著作"The World Is Flat"裡曾經提到，藉由資訊搜尋的普及，可以產生讓世界上有更多的人可以參與世界上的重要活動，進而改變世界的規則。他也利用「搜尋排名優化員」這樣的工作，來說明在平整的世界裡，不僅人們無法再侷限自己的工作型態（記得"Did You Know?"的影片嗎？現在的中學生，在38歲之前，就可能從事過14件工作），也將會創造出許多過去根本無法想像的新職業。也許我們也可以自己統計看看，在生活中，有多少事情在真正執行之前的第一件事情是上網搜尋？

在資訊搜尋這塊區域裡，最具代表性的，應該就是Google了。NHK製作了一部相當深入淺出而且立場中性的影片，介紹這家改變人們生活習慣的公司，片長大約45分鐘。同時，感謝對岸網友為這部影片加入字幕，並且分享於YouTube上。如果有興趣的話，可以經由下面的連結進行觀賞。（我知道嵌入影片會比較方便，不過，那會拖慢開啟網頁和收RSS feed的速度。所以還是把這個連結的權利交給有興趣的人吧。）

因為YouTube有影片長度的限制，所以分切成五段。另外，雖然這系列的影片是介紹Google，同時也經由網友增加了字幕，但終究影片本身的權利仍屬於NHK。所以，並無法確保YouTube什麼時候會查到，也或者NHK什麼時候會抗議，而造成影片不能再觀賞了。如果想看的話，也許應該早些觀賞唷。

除去某些比較經典的SF類型，在以前的電影或影集裡，科學家的角色如果不是大壞蛋的話，那麼大概是個不怎麼稱頭的瘋狂博士（比如說，007裡的Q博士）。Asimov的說法是：人們對聰明的角色，具有恐懼感。所以正義的一方總應該要是和善、忠誠、強壯而不耍伎倆的（比如說：Superman）。不過，隨著科學與科技對我們的生活越來越重要，電影或影集裡的科學背景的角色對劇情的重要性越來越大。

也許，這樣的情形該從"X-Files"的開始。解謎的雙人搭檔裡，不再是兩個直線往前衝的熱血角色。有了Scully探員這位比較科學硬底子背景的輔助，讓這部說難聽一點是「怪獸追捕」的影集，增加了不少科幻的說服力。然後，當CSI這個當初製作時，由於其對犯罪證據與推裡的嚴格與專業，對收視率並沒有很大的期待，卻沒有想到會掀起熱潮。於是，科學家不再只是在科幻的影集世界裡扮演重要角色，你可以在影集裡聽到那些鑑識員們非常自豪的說著"I'm a scientist"這樣的話。不過，即使如此，科學與科學家，仍然還是很專業而嚴肅的。而在今年的新戲裡，有兩部很有趣的影集則讓geek角色走向完全不一樣的風格。

"Chuck"是一部由因故於Stanford肄業電腦維修員Chuck和CIA美女探員Sarah為男女主角的動作冒險喜劇影集，而這一切都是因為Chuck意外把唯一一份的國家機密資訊網的內容記憶進大腦裡開始的。老實說，由於是以喜劇為基調的影集，所以劇情推演也滿典型的。就是那種一集一個案子，然後Chuck就是對特務的工作完全外行，還會扯後腿，卻總是誤打誤撞的可以解決案件。而Sarah則是那種典型超級女特務，身負為國家「保衛」最高機密的職責，十八般武藝樣樣行，卻似乎帶著某些秘密。再加上其他配角像是一樣是負責「顧電腦」的NSA探員Casey以及Chuck工作的大賣場怪角群的搭配之下，有時候明明是很老套的劇情了，但套在geek和特務身上，就有一種莫名的趣味。即使我們已經看過很多挖苦特務和geek的笑點，但是融合起來倒也具有一些新奇的味道。

若說，"Chuck"是加入了geek以外的其他元素來增加賣點，那"The Big Bang Theory"，就確實是不折不扣純搞geek的sitcom。於是，當一部sitcom，整整20分鐘都是geek笑點，那麼，典型的情境就像是這樣：有一個女主角對著主角們哭訴著，自己總是喜歡那種不老實的男生是不是瘋了，其中一個直接了當的回答：「正是如此。」另一個想要表示友善的說：「不，你沒有瘋，那只是矛盾而已。矛盾是我們的天性。」看到這裡好像很有哲理，於是他又接著說了：「這就好像光有波粒二重性一樣。」天哪，雖然我承認這個笑話真的很好笑（如果你還聽得懂他後面還接著哇啦啦地講述著的Huygens和Einstein的觀點），但是這種笑點似乎對不是理工背景的人有點尷尬。老實說啦，我還挺難想像這樣的影集居然可以在這種競爭超級激烈的環境下生存。就算CBS是靠著在"The Big Bang Theory"播映的前半個小時裡撥的是"How I Met Your Mother"所產生的提攜效應，以帶動這部影集的收視率。但是，要不是WGA on Strike的事件，使得一切變得的無所適從，他們似乎還真的有機會拿到不錯的收視率，而可以繼續下去呢！（這讓我不禁覺得，科學教育真的進步了嗎？連電視搞笑都可以玩這麼專門...）

另外，"The Big Bang Theory"的片頭曲也非常合影集本身的調性，

配上從宇宙爆炸開始，進而人類歷史的迅速短片片播放，這真的很有趣。

其實，想到在本季的"CSI:NY"裡，都已經出現要靠玩Second Life才能破案（啊...其實沒破）的情形下，也許我們的世界會演變成像"Chuck"裡面提到的一句話一樣："It's 1999. The next millennium belongs to the geek."

這是「髮膠明星夢」"Hairspray"的電影版片尾曲。自從看完電影之後，這首歌還滿常忽然從腦中跳出來的。其實電影裡每一首歌都很有特色：像"Good Morning Baltimore"是很棒的開場曲，完全可以把電影的氣氛帶起來；"Welcome to the 60's"則是典型到不行的時代風格；"Big Blonde and Beautiful"性感中帶著詼諧；"(You're) Timeless to Me"，雖然看John Travolta和Christopher Walken彼此放電的畫面很有趣，但是也是充滿深情的一首歌；"Without Love"雖然情節的氣氛該是有一點點緊張，但我一直覺得這首歌好可愛。而這一首"You Can't Stop the Beat"應該是旋律最容易記得（主旋律重複很多次），歌詞又最超級熱血兼歡樂的。

另外，這首"You Can't Stop the Beat"的Broadway版可以在YouTube上面找到。畢竟是舞台劇演員的歌唱經驗比較足，唱現場的水準都很齊。電影版的應該在錄音室修過很多次了，不過演員間的歌唱實力差距還是一聽就明白。

這首歌恐怕是目前介紹的歌曲當中知名度最低的一首，是由Todd Rundgren在1978年以對在一起多年的同居人表達和平分手的心情寫下的一首歌。第一次聽到這首歌是在電影"Vanilla Sky"，那時候由於電影本身劇情很精采，所以並沒有很專注於這首歌的歌詞和想表達的心情，只覺得氣氛很貼合電影的需要而已。第二次聽到這首歌則是在影集"Nip/Tuck"，由於當下的劇情有點無聊，所以就還挺注意歌曲本身的氣味。於是，就這樣，注意到這首實在很特別歌曲。

這首歌的歌詞和結構其實還挺明白的－－略帶輕鬆的節奏、淡淡的憂傷加上重複多次的"can we still be friends?"的疑問，這種感覺就像是一種充滿著矛盾與懸而未決的情感。語帶輕鬆看似，好像已經看開了分開的必然事實，卻總又見到在一起的許多起落，能否繼續維持朋友關係的問題，不只問著對方，也問著演唱者自己，於是在分手與分開之間，以"sweet and old song"比喻著彼此關係。單純而精確地只描寫著一種特定感覺的心情，也就是這首歌的最動人的地方。

受到這種特別感覺的吸引，我還很特別的去找了幾個翻唱的版本，看看不一樣的人，會不會有不一樣詮釋的氣質。Robert Palmer僅在Todd Rundgren發表的次年就進行翻唱，其實這個版本實在不怎麼樣，加快了的節奏卻失去了這受歌該有的若及又離的感覺。Vonda Shepard應該算是第一個用女生的方式是去詮釋這首歌的。不過，我覺得實在有些表現平平，也許是因為太接近Todd Rundgren的處理方式。Mandy Moore的版本，差別比較大，連編曲都已經全部重新處理，算是帶來一點驚喜。不過，她唱歌的情緒波動實在很劇烈，老實說實在很「流行」，不投我的喜好。（"Only Hope"應該是我覺得她表現最穩定也最好聽的一首歌。）但，如果想要聽女生的演繹，相比於Vonda Shepard的版本，我還是會推薦Mandy Moore的版本。

雖然不是任何人對會喜歡或者適合這樣的歌曲，但，如果可以將自己專注在某種情緒之下，也許也可以感受到這首歌的特殊心情。

Hairspray

我很喜歡音樂劇類型的電影，就算去除本來就是Broadway音樂劇、Andrew Lloyd Webber經典作品的改編－－"Evita"和"Phatom of the Oprea"，我還是很喜歡"Moulin Rouge!"和"Chicago"。所以，當知道"Hairspray"是音樂劇時，即使在預告片之下，本來對劇情沒有具備太多信心，但在有John Travolta和Michelle Pfeiffer在的情況下，還是很期待這部電影。但是當我看完這部片之後，我真的很高興我錯了，這部電影根本就不是一部靠演員撐起來的電影，而是電影本身就可以代表自己。吸引人的元素實在是非常多，簡直是從Tracy唱出第一句"Good Morning Baltimore"，就知道這是一部我一定會超喜歡的電影。

首先，這部故事是發生在60年代的美國小鎮，也就是那種努力就會有成果、行行出狀元的年代，恰恰可以貼合「胖女孩出頭天」式的劇情。這樣的故事條件之下，歌曲的選擇當然是充滿舞台劇與老歌型式的風味，同時台詞間又充滿了幽默、機智、和音樂劇才為看到的用韻，這真的是超級對胃口的。這就像為什麼Disney的經典時期動畫，擺在任何時刻都是經典的原因：劇情與音樂的絕佳配合是超越時間的。Pixar的動畫雖然總為我們帶來視覺上的驚奇，但總是少了點什麼。（Nemo小魚實在不是個好歌手:P）。回頭來看，還有什麼比簡單與歡樂的氣質更適合音樂劇呢？

於是，在這樣已經天生優勢的電影體質上，結合適當的演員演出，一部精彩絕倫的電影就誕生了。其實，這部電影中，除了Queen Latifah就是演"Chicago"而出現於影壇外，實在很驚訝John Travolta、Michelle Pfeiffer和Christopher Walken都可以邊唱邊跳地展現出角色魅力來。特別是John Travolta可是男扮女裝，穿著著fat suit呢，看著他和Christopher Walken的互動真是趣味十足！至於Michelle Pfeiffer的反派角色，雖然說我們都知道Cruella是狡詐女角的最佳象徵，但Michelle Pfeiffer的表演也已經堪稱一絕。

對於上面這三位，肯定很多人在提到這部電影時著墨甚多。所以，這裡我一定要額外提一下那些眾多的YA角色們。Nikki Blonsky的Tracy當然是非常值得讚賞，飽滿的音色加上靈活的舞姿，劇情所需要的單純性格，做為喜劇的女主角，卻絕不會被那些老牌演員們掩蓋光芒。還有，像是其實應該已經在YA角色上擁有比較多經驗和名氣的配角，Amanda Bynes和Brittany Snow。YA電影常常會有那種主角是靠配角們眾星拱月的現象，有時候配角反而是短暫而出色，但這兩位倒是可以在自己的電影裡，很適切展現屬於YA主角光芒的了。在這部電影裡，她們卻可以壓抑自己的光芒，做出自己配角該有的表現，我覺得這是一個年輕演員，終有一天必須脫離過去角色影子時，必須具備的資質。

也許可能出自於我對音樂劇電影的特殊偏好，但還是要說，我很喜歡這部超過我預期的電影。而我也建議，即使本來對音樂劇電影沒有太大興趣的人，也不要避開這部電影，它的幽默歡樂氣氛，肯定可以給你帶來兩個小時愉快的時光。
