這首歌最早是由Scott English於1971年所演唱的，原名是"Brandy"，描寫的是English和一隻他最愛的虛擬狗的故事。據說是因為記者在歌發行之後，一直詢問English，Brandy是指誰，English為了打發那名記者，就說那是他的一隻狗。

後來在1974年，Barry Manilow翻唱這首歌的時候，就把Brandy改成Mandy，也就變成是一首情歌。而這首翻唱歌，讓他首次進入Billboard Hot 100，也是他個人首張黃金單曲。

另一個可能在台灣比較熟悉的版本，應該是由英國大團Westlife（西城男孩）於2003年再次翻唱，紅極一時的版本。

其實這兩個版本我都很喜歡啦，從某個角度來說，Westlife也真的是很有本事。畢竟，Barry Manilow的版本，已經演繹得非常好了。
